Sunday Review - Week 2 - Get Comfortable Doing the Uncomfortable

Once, there was a young martial arts student. He was at an Aikido dojo, and he watched his Sensei, his teacher, sparring with another accomplished fighter. He was very impressed and he walked up to his master, saying.

“Master, you never lose your balance. What is the secret?”

His sensei answered him, “You are wrong, my child. I am constantly losing my balance. My skill lies in my ability to regain my balance, over and over again.”

We lose our balance all the time. Every day, we strive on doing what’s uncomfortable.

This week, our challenge is to rebuild our website, create, setup, and promote an online program. Although we are experienced entrepreneurs, what we’re doing is still new to both of us. And we learn together, discuss the ins and outs, ups and downs of this new endeavor that we are pursuing this year.

So in our weekly review this week, we’re going to talk about getting uncomfortable. You see, everything...

Science proves exercise alone won't help you lose much weight

We are at that time of year where everyone is busy making New Years’ resolution. Sometimes, it’s the same resolution as last year, and the year before … Year after year, we consume too much food and drinks over the holidays, and we want to shed those excess pounds we gained and get into shape.

But before you sign up for another gym membership promotion, hoping that this year you can lose weight and get in shape by working out regularly, let me ask you this:

How did that work out for you last year? Or the year before that? Do you think this year will be any different?

You may be very enthusiastic at first, going to the gym every day, taking as many fitness classes as you can, lifting weights, doing spin classes, kick boxing, etc…

Your enthusiasm may last about 30 days, maybe even up to 2 months. We notice this because, the parking lot at the gym is always full the first 2 months of the year. And then, it gets emptier and emptier.

You burn out, because...

Billboards Hearts and Memories 1

Billboards Hearts and Memories is the Foolish Couple's 2018 New Year's Resolution. A wisdom, a learning, and a memory each week.

Welcome to the Foolish Couple’s Foolish Review 2018.

Our resolution this year is to do a constant, weekly review of ourselves, and to share 3 main things with you every week.

1.      Billboard – A ‘wisdom’ that will inspire and motivate you

2.      Lesson – A tidbit we learned that week relating to our HEART framework (Health, Employment, Assets, Relationships, Time)

3.      Memory – A memory of our time together as a couple

To kick start 2018, Here’s Week 1:

1. This week's Billboard quote is from Yoda:

2. HEART lesson - on HEALTH

This week’s lesson came from our Body Transformation program. Developing a new lifestyle habit takes time and patience, but once it become a habit, we will enjoy a lifetime of benefits from good habits. The...

Foolish Insight, 2018-01-07

We are the Foolish Couple.  As Relationship success coaches and mentors, we give you all the information you need on building your meaningful, fulfilling, happy and joyful life.

If you have been with us for a while you would know that we set a couple’s new year’s resolution every year. Basically, every year, we decide on something that we would do together, as a couple, would enhance our experience as a couple.

2 years ago we decided to watch 52 sunsets together. We felt that everyone is always so “busy busy busy” that we often forget the beauty that is already around us. So we decided on watching sunsets together, just to take a few moments to be unplugged, relaxed, and just take in the beauty of nature.

Last year, we upped the game by setting a goal to cook 12 meals together. Now it may sound like a simple goal. We’re not talking about just our daily meals. We do eat dinner at home 3 to 4 times a...

Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

*Transcript

Hello. We are the Foolish Couple, and you are watching The Foolish Insights. We create these video blogs to give you a boost to your success, and it may be about your relationship, your career, finances, contributions, or, like today, we’re going to talk about Health.

Specifically, the latest craze on intermittent fasting.

So how is Intermittent Fasting different from Starvation?

Starvation is a global problem, and it is the absence of food, not by choice.

Fasting, on the other hand, is just choosing not to eat the food for a certain amount of time. And it can be for health, spiritual or other reasons.

So by definition, we actually “fast” everyday. The time between your dinner and your breakfast, which is usually about 12 to 14 hours, is your fasting period.

Therefore, “Breakfast” literally means Breaks your Fast. Get it? [tweet this]

So is it really necessary to fast? in our opinion, eating and fasting is all about balance. Over eating is...

How to Train your Dragon

Dragon. Mythical, mystical, mysterious, powerful.

Remember Bruce Lee in ‘Enter the Dragon’?

Daenerys, the mother of the 3 dragons, in the ‘Game of Thrones’?

Dragons symbolize wisdom, longevity, sexuality, fertility, procreation, and regeneration. They are seen as mythical beings having magical powers.

They are also symbolic of life, growth, existence and prosperity. The ancient Chinese regarded the dragon as the most potent of all symbols of energy and good fortune.

They believed that dragons bring them luck, prosperity, abundance, consistent success and high achievement.

It was said that Dragons represent potent propitious powers, especially control over rainfall, floods and hurricanes.

Today, the dragon is still a very popular symbol that stands for valiance, heroism, boldness, self-confidence, power, excellence, perseverance, nobility, vitality and happiness.

It brings about physical as well as spiritual...

You ARE what you EAT ... and That's NOT a good thing!

You are what you eat …

And its not a good thing

We have received tremendous response from our previous blog: Prevention is better than cure, and we have been flooded with questions and comments.

Many of you told us that they eat “healthy”, according to either the USDA Food Pyramid, or to the more Current USDA My Plate recommendations.

Since the Food Pyramid is seen as the "authoritative" source for nutritional information it has been propagated by the media, by teachers, physicians and nutritionists all over the country.

But do you know where the food pyramid came from?

The USDA Food pyramid began in the late 1800’s by Wilbur Olin Atwater, a PHD in agricultural chemistry. Atwater was tasked and funded by the government to build a respiration Calorimeter for studying Human metabolism.

He determined that the calorie was a means of measuring the efficiency of a diet and that different foods produced different amounts of energy. His...

2 Wolves and a Funeral

And during times of sadness, we feel that it is often much more difficult to keep our ‘cool’, to be polite and thoughtful, and to be forgiving. Human interactions can become rather ugly sometimes, and our emotions are often elevated.

So, without naming our friends and family, you could imagine, like you saw in the movies, how people often fight over the smallest thing, like a silver serving spoon that’s been with the family for years. Or people that brought up old, unresolved issues and started fighting all over again.

Watching all these drama over the past few weeks actually reminded me of an old Cherokee legend. And it goes like this:

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and...

*Full transcript below*

Hello we are the Foolish Couple and you are watching the Foolish Insights.

The last one that Andy did was fairly lengthy so we’ll keep this one short and sweet.

We play badminton regularly with a bunch of mostly Chinese friends, and sometimes we would share some proverbs and insights and inspirations. And here’s one that we came across recently and I really want to share with all of you.

We’ve probably all know of someone, our friends maybe, that is full negative that it’s just difficult to hang out with them. They like to hang on to grudges, they could never forgive anyone or anything, even on the smallest things. They feel like everyone has wronged them somehow, and that the government is against them, society is against them, their parents and friends and family are all against them. They are never happy, they feel like everyday is a bad day and they just have the worst luck.

So here’s a man, just like the one that...

Prevention is better than Cure

In a previous episode we talked about The movie "Dr. Strange" and how a successful Surgeon got into a horrific car accident and ended up losing the dexterity of both of his hands. And that has an avalanche effect on his life: He lost his career as a surgeon, lost his money, lost his friends and even his girlfriend. So he began his search for a cure for his hands. He went from Doctor to Doctor, looking for a specialist who can repair his hands. And even though there may be some experimental procedures that could help him, no doctor was willing to put their reputation on the line to try to repair his hands. The story then goes on about his spiritual studies and eventual healing of his hands and his true calling in life.

This movie reminded me how Doctors are in real life. Nowadays many doctors are promoting preventative health, how they care about your wellbeing and encourage you to have routine physicals in order to maintain your health.

They routinely do physical exams, blood...
